International Financial English (IFE)
is the definitive course for those needing to work in the international financial community as well as serving as preparation for the Cambridge International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE).
Target Participants
The course is aimed at accounting and finance professionals who need first-rate English language skills to succeed in the international business community.
Language Level
Participants should already bring with them upper-intermediate or advanced language skills (Common European Framework Level B1 minimum).
For current Cambridge Institut students: D-level or Business Vantage*.
Course Content
This course, comprising two blocks, teaches accounting and finance professionals how to use English in a commercial environment focusing on a variety of accounting and finance topics including
- Financial statements and accounting
- Letters of credit and bills of exchange
- Loans and credit
- Banks and bonds
- Regulation and deregulation
- Incoterms
- Foreign Exchange
- Mergers and Acquisitions
- Asset Management
- Retail, central, commercial and investment banking vocabulary
Other topics that will be covered are general business skills such as meetings, written and oral business correspondence, small talk, problem solving and grammar skills. The aim is to develop the four key skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking. The course also provides the necessary exam preparation for the Cambridge International Certificate in Financial English (ICFE) which can be taken at the end of Block II (May 2010).
